2017 Season

Rookies!

2017 was an incredibly fun and exciting rookie season. For six weeks in January and February, with little money and few parts, we designed our robot, planned our strategy, built our bot, and raised our funds. Then we headed into the competition season with few expectations. No one was more surprised by our success than we were.

We attended four competitions: two qualifiers in Dalton and Gainesville, the state championship in Athens, and the world championship in Houston. Our robot, Massiv, helped our team finish ranked 53rd out of over 4000 teams, the highest ranked rookie team in the world.
Gainesville qualifier

GAINESVILLE
QUALIFIER

3/3/17 – 3/5/17

We traveled to Gainesville, GA for our first district event. We played 18 matches, made it to the event's championship, and won the Highest Rookie Seed Award. We ended up as the captain of the second-place alliance and placed 9th overall out of 40 teams.

DALTON QUALIFIER
3/9/17 – 3/11/17

Our second qualifying event was in Dalton. There, with a record of 11-5, we finished second overall out of 35 teams. Our team again took home the Highest Rookie Seed Award, as well as the Quality Award for our good sportsmanship, high-performing robot, and neat pit area.

GA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
4/5/17 – 4/8/17

After the qualifiers, WildCat 5e was ranked 7th in the state of Georgia. At the state finals, we faced tougher competition than before. Our alliance still managed to make it to the semifinals and our team finished 12th overall.

FRC WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
4/19/17 – 4/22/17

Because of our success at state championships, we were invited to travel to Houston, Texas to compete at the FRC World Championship. There were hundreds of teams from all over the world, and WildCat 5e finished ranked 3rd out of 66 in its division and again made it to the semifinals.
